چکیده

We propose a sensing system comprising large network of tiny, battery-less, Radio Frequency (RF)-powered sensors that use backscatter communication. The an entirely passive technique to 'sense' the parameters wireless channel between themselves. Since material properties influence RF channels, this fine-grain can uncover multiple both at scale and fine spatial resolution. In paper, we study feasibility proposed for monitoring in which are embedded. performed set experiments where sensor-to-sensor well-defined using physics-based modeling, compared theoretical experimentally obtained values. For some interest, like humidity or strain, relationship with observed have be modeled relying on data-driven approaches. initial show observable difference phase variation applied weights.

Smart Sensing Technology for Structural Health Monitoring

“Smart” sensors with embedded microprocessors and wireless communication links have the potential to fundamentally change the way civil infrastructure systems are monitored, controlled, and maintained. Indeed, a 2002 National Research Council Report [1] noted that the use of networked systems of embedded computers and sensors throughout society could well dwarf all previous milestones in the in...

Networked Sensing for Structural Health Monitoring

1 This paper describes an ongoing project investigating embedded networked sensing for structural health monitoring applications. The vision is of many low-power sensor “motes” embedded throughout the structure with a smaller number of nodes that can provide local excitation. The challenge is to develop both the networking algorithms to reliably communicate within the network, and distributed a...

Passive Sensing Node Network for Monitoring Performance of RF Connector-Coaxial Cable System

A passive sensing node technology is introduced for monitoring the integrity of RF coaxial transmission lines and associated RF connectors in the UHF range of frequencies. Each passive sensing node is powered by a transmission line coupler inside the coaxial cable. Passive sensing node sensing elements, fineline interconnect metallurgy, transmission line coupler, and electronics are packaged on...

Wireless Sensing for Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructures

Structural health monitoring is a broad field that encompasses a number of synergetic technologies brought together to provide a system that can potentially identify and characterize the performance and/or possible deterioration of a structural system. Such a system would include a data acquisition subsystem capable of recording a structure’s response to ambient and external loads and computati...

An Active Sensing Platform for Wireless Structural Health Monitoring

This paper presents SHiMmer, a wireless platform for active sensing that combines localized processing with energy harvesting to provide long-lived structural health monitoring. The life-cycle of the node is extended to 20 years by the use of super-capacitors for energy storage. During this period the node is expected to work completely maintenance-free. The node is capable of harvesting up to ...
